Town: Kaukauna, Wisconsin
Deaf dogs: Buster is a 9 month old Springer Spaniel. He loves everybody, he gets so excited people dont understand, he just wants to show affection. I got him from a puppy mill, didnt know it was a mill till I got there, would have bought them all if I could. He owns the title to my heart. Still new at training him though.
Human companion: Lou Frank and family
Other pets: another Springer Spaniel and a kitty

Zoey

Town: Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Deaf dogs: Zoey is a 12 week old Boxer. She is our second deaf Boxer we have been lucky enough to own. With the passing of our beloved "BoyBoy" (10 year old white boxer also born deaf) in March we set out to find another special Boxer to welcome into our lives. A breeder close to us had Zoey and with a quick google search we were hooked up with Panyack Boxers. Erica is a special breeder and she was looking for just the right home for little Zoey. Since we had lived with a deaf dog and have a hearing companion (Lola a four year old Cattle dog mix adopted from the shelter at the age of 7 months) for Zoey she allowed us to adopt her! She is a quick learner, already knows sit, stay, down and come! Potty training with this little bundle is a little bit more difficult, as she is not fond of the Wisconsin weather in April! We won't give up-she is a smart girl and will catch on eventually. Anyone who is looking to adopt a deaf dog I encourage you to do so-they are the most loyal wonderful dogs that you could own.
Human companion: Mark, Kathy and Holly Satka and Linn our Swedish foreign exchange student
Other pets: Lola a four year old Cattle dog mix

Town: Superior, Wisconsin
Deaf dogs: Corbin is a 6 month old Dalmatian/Hound mix. I recently adopted Corbin from a shelter up north. When I first went to see him I noticed that he did not respond to his name, nor did he respond to clapping or whistling. At the time, I didn't think much of it, him being a puppy and all. Now that I have him home and have gotten him tested, I have found out that he is deaf. I need help on raising him and suggestions about potty training.

Marlee is a congenitally-deaf, three-year-old Beagle/Shepherd mix. She is the silliest looking dog you will ever see and probably one of the shyest. Town: Washburn, Wisconsin
Deaf dog: Hunter is a 12 week old English Setter. He is an Old Hemlock Setter. He was intended to be a breeder. As a beautiful loving and intelligent pup I decided to rescue what would otherwise have been a culled pup. I am already convinced that he will make a wonderful pet/companion,and he plays well with his housemates(a retriever,a springer, and an english toy spaniel). I also have high hopes for him as a field dog, despite the obvious challenges. I intend to use a training collar that offers a vibration mode as well as shock correction. You needent be afraid of these as the gentle vibration mode works with electrodes removed. At 12 weeks Hunter is 90% housetrained and has learned come, sit, down, and stay. I would love to hear from people with setters [deaf] who have been successful in field training.
Human companions: Rob L. Ganson, wife, daughter

Town: Somerset, Wisconsin
Deaf dog: Bear is a 4 month old Boxer. His family says "He is one of the most unique Boxers I have. He has a personality of a royal king. He runs the house. Deaf dogs can be a lot of work, but for the right family they can make a wonderful addition. It is an outrage that people want to put them down just because they are deaf. The breeder I got Bear from was really good. She had a lot of passion and concern that Bear went to the right family and choose us. There are not to many breeders out there like this. If I could, I would resucue all of the deaf Boxers out there. They are one of the best breeds around. I wouldn't give Bear up for the world. He is one of my kids. Bear relys on us and the other Boxers to get him around safe. We also rely on him."
Human companions: Dave, Tammie, Jordan, Dante & Jace Zapata
Other pets: Junior, KO, Shawdow, Harley - all Boxers

Joy

Jenny

Town: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Deaf dog: Joy is a 5 year old, very smart Coton de Tulear. Joy won first prize in puppy obedience class before we knew she was deaf. She was able to do the commands from my body language and gestures. She has learned about 190 signs. Some we taught her. Others she taught herself - ex."Give Paw". She has passed both the Canine Good Citizen and the Pet Therapy International testing. She is truly the happiest dog I have ever owned.

Jenny - an older Coton de Tulear sister who helped tremendously in the education of the deaf puppy. Joy reads Jenny's body language and knows what is happening. Jenny knows the command "Find Joy" and gets her to come to me. She is Joy's security blanket when in strange surroundings. A wonderful big sister to Joy.
Human companions: Karen Case
Other pets: Jenny a 7 year old Coton de Tulear, who helped tremendously in the education of Joy

Sadie Blue
Sadie Blue
Town: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Deaf dogs: Petey, Hope and Sadie Blue
Petey is a 5 year old Dalmatian. "I got an e-mail about Petey, saying that his time time was running out and he was a severe abuse case. Something inside told me that I had to go see him. I knew right away that we were going to adopt him. He has a crooked little snout from the previous abuse. He is extremely hyper, a total love bug and no longer shows any mental signs of the abuse.Petey was our first deaf dog"
Hope is a 5 year old Dalmatian. "We were foster parents for Hope. We almost instantly fell in love with her. She is a huge smiler and more vocal than any dog we have ever met. She is always happy and loveable. "
Sadie Blue is a 7 year old Dalmatian. "Sadie was dumped by the only family she had knows since she was 8 weeks old. We fostered Sadie for several months, then she was adopted to a family but they returned her. We loved her and really didn't want to let her go, so we added yet another to the pack. Sadie has 1 blue eye and is a sassy lady. "
Human companions: Tammy Lohneis
Other pets: 2 hearing Dalmatians, Brittany and Spaz.

Town: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Deaf dog: Bailee Blue is a 4-1/2 year old BC/Aussie/Husky mix. "Bailee Blue was born deaf and rescued in Kansas City at the Animal Haven. She was there for 4 months before I went to visit my sister who worked there. Most of our hand signals are agility based, but we do make it up as we go along. She is very responsive to facial expressions, and like any BC works off of eye contact, herding everything from, cats, other dogs and kids. Bailee is also the biggest camera hound you'd ever meet. She loves posing and extremely patient when having her photo taken. Bailee has matured into a wonderful happy companion (her nickname for the first few years was 'devil dog'). And with being deaf her adaptation to the world hasn't been easy. But for all she's been through, she's one of the sweetest, most socially loving dogs I've ever owned."
Human companions: Mom Renee, Dad Peter, Uncle Matt, Aunt Erika & Uncle Derek, Gramp & Gram Bach, and Great Granny Barbara.
Other pets: One BC sister named Bayen, who my sister and I raised from pup. My sister's two cats - Cass & Autumn (fantasic playmates).

Emma
Emma
Town: Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Deaf dog: Emma is a white Boxer with one blue eye and one brown eye. She is a wonderful addition to our family! We brought her home knowing she was deaf and we were a little nervous at first. We starting training right away and she picked up on the hand signals with no problem. It's great! We never have to be quiet when she is sleeping or turn the radio down in the car because we are worried about it being too loud for her. She is such a clown, she loves to be around everyone and is very obedient for her age. She sits outside on the porch after school and just waits for the kids to walk by and pet her. One of her favorite activities is frequenting the puppy park. Everyone gets such a kick out of her personality and they are shocked to hear that she is deaf. She's such a good girl! We love her so much and are so glad that she is part of our family.
Human companions: Emma has two skin siblings, Mike and Kait and her Mommy and Daddy.
Other pets: Brown calico kitty named Boo

Town: Luxemburg, Wisconsin
Deaf dog: "SuzyQ is our family hero. She started out as a foster dog who our family found out we couldn't live with out. We adopted her ourselves. My son has seizures and a very rare disease. SuzyQ saved his life. She alerted us to a seizure one morning that would have surely killed him if it hadn't been for her. She is also alittle ham. IF she doesn't want to listen to her signs she will lay on the floor and put her paws over her eyes. We love her with all our heart."

Update 5/1/08: We now have 2 deaf dogs. 2nd dog: Pebbles - She is 8 yrs. old and SuzyQ's sidekick. Pebbles and SuzyQ now know about 40 signs.

She is a great companion."

Town: Waterloo, Wisconsin
Deaf dog: Chloe is a 10 year old Sheltie. "We got Chloe when she was 1-1/2 years old. She was bred as a showdog, but wasn't winning any blue ribbons because she was a bit too tall and her nose was too long. We had Shelties before and wanted another of the same breed. Chloe is not completely deaf, but we want to be able to communicate with her when the need arises. Yes, she is a title holder. She holds the "best in Mom's class" title and the key to my heart."
Human companions: Lynn and Joe Sullivan
