England Deaf dog: Jabba is a Dalmatian, He is the most affectionate dog you could wish to know. From first thing in the morning to last thing at night he will either be licking or nibbling you. As this is Jabbas first christmas he is absolutley fascinated by the lights making it impossible to walk him, or even to keep him still! England Deaf dog: My wife and I adopted Rocky (a white Boxer)as a companion for our 2 other hearing boxers from the White Boxer Rescue Centre in Preston. We knew he was deaf when we adopted him. England Deaf dog: Lily (English Bull Terrier) was born deaf had two 'homes' before we found her at 10 weeks. she enjoys her dog socialisation classes and is doing very well. She can sit / go flat/ stand to hand command. On the lead she is learing how to return to us. Lily has a very good memory so if she sees something she would like to do and can't at the time due to being restricted say by the lead she will remember it for later. She loves to 'get' the hoover broom and builders brushes as she passes. Car boot sales are a favourite as there are a lot of teddy's at low level to suddenly dive on - she is only helping them you understand. Lily is helping us to learn how much our communication is usually futile, we are learning to be clear and express what we mean ! We are currently keeping a training journal of Lily's teachings and hope to publish it sometime in the autumn of 2002 as a training guide. If you have anything to share around your own training, might be interested in a deaf dog party in the north UK (on the beach) or want to tell of something that has helped you with your dog please do contact as your contribution will be invaluable. Human companions: Jacqui Best Other pets: We no longer have our lovely pepper, opera singer Shi Tzu or Hera the 'baby' bearded collie (never got older than 6 months despite living more than ten years !! We knew she was deaf when we got her and she has exploded into our lives and play, destroy, eat and sleep! not necessarily in that order!! England Deaf dog: Toby Toby is a three year old Border Collie adopted in March 2002 from Manchester and District Dogs Home in Manchester . "They didn't tell me he was deaf and at first I thought it was selective deafness due to everything being new and him always being excited. I have just started dog training with him in Radcliffe. The people doing the training are excellent and very helpful. They think he has had some training in the past and he was better behaved than the border collie who was being assessed before him. He is frightened of dogs that look like German Shepherds but is a really good friend. Town: Manchester Deaf dogs: Summer Summer is an 8 month old Old Enlglish Sheepdog. "I was born in Blackpool, England. The breeder didnt tell my new mum and dad I was deaf, but when they realised that I was they loved me too much to send me back. I love playing football in the park, and going to the seaside for long walks. I like playing chase with my two step sisters (Jen and Cleo the cats), and best of all I love bathtime. I go to Swinton Dog training classes where I have made lots of new friends, including a beagle I have a crush on but thats a secret. If any other deaf dogs would like to get in touch please do, even owners are welcome."
