Maverick
Town: Gateshead, England
Deaf dog: Maverick is a 9 month old Parson Russell terrier. He has been deaf since birth but his character is still huge! He has completed his bronze and silver Good Citizen Award with the KC and is currently doing his gold. He is registered on the activity register as "Callsign Maverick" with the KC and will compete in his pre-beginners stake obedience competition in May. He works completely by hand signs and is very clever! In safe open places, such as the beach, we can let him off his lead where he never lets us out of his sight! He's amazing!
Human companions: Michelle and Richard Nesbitt
Other pets: Parent Terrier, Tess

Dylan

Town: Cockermouth, Cumbria, England
Deaf dog: Dylan is a 4 year old Border Collie. I've always owned Border Collie crosses, and Dylan is the first pedigree I've owned and I wouldn't swap him for the world. He has been the easiest dog to train and definitely the friendliest, he gets on with other dogs, kids, and loves cats. I didn't know he was deaf when I got him, I got him because the owner said he was a stupid dog that wouldn't train (so felt sorry for him), plus he was all white and fluffy. Pretty much his ace!

Charles

Town: Hartlepool, England
Deaf dog: Charles is a 10+ year old Collie. He is a rescue dog from Manchester Dogs Home at approx 5 yrs.If I didn't have my other border collie Tia, I don't know how I would have coped with him. He latched on to her as soon as he saw her, Tia was (still is) his world and luckily I was hers and so between the three of us we worked around his deafness. I would call Tia and they both came and so on, so I was able to let him off the lead on fields and open spaces where he could always see her .Now we have 5 more collies, he has 5 more pairs of ears!!
Human companions: Clare Stainton and Partner, Ian Dobison
Other pets: Tia,Tyler, Amber, Meena, Walter, William, (Dogs). 3 rabbits, 2 Guinea pigs (all rescued)

Bryn

Town: Sunderland, England
Deaf dog: Bryn is a 6 year old Border Collie. He was diagnosed as deaf in November 2006 using the BAER test. He is a trained sheepdog and competes in Agility at senior/grade 6 level. The specialist who tested him thought he had probably always been deaf but living in a multi dog household and being trained from an early age made us unaware of his problem. I'm glad I didn't know Bryn was deaf earlier as I would have treated him differently and he would not have achieved all he has done. He will continue to compete in Agility but now I know why he sometimes goes the wrong way !!
Human companions: .Alan and Carolyn Baker
Other pets: Kyla, 10 year old Border Collie. Tigger, 4 year old rescue crossbreed

Camera shy

Town: Middlesbrough, England
Deaf dog: Patch is a one and a half year old Terrier cross. His guardian writes "Patch has the most adorable face. When we went to adopt adog I wanted a black female, but when we got to the rescue centre I knem I had to have him. If he knocks something off a table or shelf he picks it up and brings it to you to put back. In some articles about deaf dogs it says you should never let your dog off the lead, we let Patch off in big fields with other dogs and he only cares about me and is never any problem to call back. I just wave and he comes running."
Human companions: Sophie Whittingham and her boyfriend

Zoe an English Setter
Zoe
Town: Carlisle, England
Deaf dog: Zoe came to us aged 7. We are part of English Setter Rescue UK. Zoe has always had a very lively out going personality. Apart from when she is asleep you would know she is deaf - people who came to see our dogs never pick up on the fact. She will be 15 in May 2001 - not bad hey for a dog that someone before we adopted her said she was 'brainless'.
Human companions: Coleen Taylor and Duncan.
Other pets: We always have Enlish Setters mainly the oldies aged 10 upwards who no one wants. See our web pages they are all on there. Being born deaf is NOT an illness - these dogs give you just as much - if not more love than hearing dogs. They all deserve someone to love them!
