East Midlands Deaf Dogs

Town: Leicester, East Midlands, United Kingdom
Deaf dog: Gwyn is a 14 and 1/2 year old Collie Fox Terrier mix. We think Gwyn was born between Christmas and New Year. We adopted her from the RSPCA aged 5 months. We were her third and final family. She is quick to learn and picked up hand signals within a week. Gwyn picked up a rosette for 'the prettiest bitch' at a local show and passed her 'good citizen award' around her 1st birthday. She is good natured, affectionate and loves people, especially children. The local hospice has allowed her to visit patients where she stands quietly to be stroked or patted. We have never regretted inviting her to be part of our family. Although she now has arthritis and poor eyesight, Gwyn still enjoys going for short walks around the fields. She looks like a sheep and gets a bit worried when the lambs come up to her! I wouldn't hesitate to offer a home to another deaf dog. Gwyn means white, fair and beloved in Welsh and she's all that and more. One special lady.

Dollie

Town: Leicester, England
Deaf dogs: Dollie is a 15 week old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She is so loving, constantly looks for you, makes lots of eye contact, snores like trooper and is very very vocal!! We only realised Dollie was deaf at about 9 wks of age. Having bought her from breeders of whom we had 1 of our other staffies from and begged them to "let me have that one" over a period of six weeks. When they finally said yes I was thrilled and feel now that she was destined to be with our family and feel truly blessed. The breeders offered to take her back, it was a no way!! She belongs with us. what more can I say, she is pure delight.

Billy
Billy
Town: Nottingham, England
Deaf dog: We rescued Billy from breeder who was going to put him down because she couldn't show him as he's deaf and has too many spots.
He has a best pal, Charlie the poodle, and they are never apart - ever, they do have their arguments, especially over food but get on like a house on fire the majority of the time!
He is definitely the cutest and most soft natured dog I know and would never hurt a fly, he sleeps in the same bed as my 2 cats who think he is one of them!
We have had him for 7 years and he still acts like a puppy....very cheeky as he is known as 'Oliver Twist' as he is always pinching food!!
