 Kaia
| Town: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Deaf dog: Kaia is a 2 year old Boxer. Our local doggy daycare
was fostering Kaia, and we learned of her one day when picking up
our hearing male boxer (Ben). We figured caring for a hearing-impaired
dog wouldn't be much of a stretch since Ben's hearing is selective.
Caring for a dog who was shuffled from irresponsible "breeder"
to first family to kennel to forever family has been our challenge
- not the deafness. Kaia is intelligent, loving, cuddly, eager to
learn and she is dilligent about making sure our eyes and ears are
clean. She is also occasionally cranky, possessive, and can be difficult
to handle - we suspect partly nature, partly nurture. In just more
than a year we have overcome so many obstacles and challenges. I can't
imagine loving her more. She is part of our family and is here to
stay.

Harley Davidson
|
Town: Amherst, Nova Scotia
Deaf dog: Harley Davidson is a 6 year old Silky Terrier.
We were approached to adopt Harley by a friend. He came to live
with us at 14 months of age with numerous issues. We already had
another silky girl so we thought he would take cues from her, which
he learned to do. His original owner had cancer and passed away
and he was her "therapy dog" throughout her illness. He
is very much a lap dog and once he adusted to life with us became
very affectionate and loving. It did take him many months to warm
up to us completely , but eventually it happened !! He is a very
sweet little guy and is very happy just to be with his family and
we are very happy to have him !!!

Fluffy
|
Town: Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia
Deaf dog: Fluffy is an 8 month old American Puitbull. We
got Fluffy from the SPCA. He was hard to adopt because he of his
deafness. He was unmanageable when we got him but he is very intelligent
and learned quickly how to cope with his deafness. We taught him
to have a gentle mouth and took him to obedience classes to train
him. He is very alert and, even though he is deaf, not much escapes
his attention. He maintains constant eye contact and takes his cues
from us. Fluffy lives with 3 cats and they co-habitate well. All
in all, Fluffy is a super dog and we love him very much.
