Mucky

Town: Dokkum, Friesland, Nederland
Deaf dog: Mucky is a 10 year old mix. He was a stray from Greece and I found him in an animal shelter in Zwolle five-and-a-half years ago. I was immediately attracted by his calm attitude and his intelligent looking eyes, he has very light-brown eyes. To some people they are wolf like! ;-) He learns very fast, even yet in his senior ages knows 25 hand signals.

Billy Elliot
Billy Elliot
Town: Wageningen, Nederland
Deaf dog: Billy Elliot spent the first 10 years of his life in various animal shelters in Germany, waiting for adoption that never happened. By that time he was grossly overweight, blind in one eye, missing most of his teeth and in general a very old dog. In January 2001 a new animal shelter called Tierschutzverein Franziskushof www.tierschutzverein-franziskushof.de obtained him, and they put him up for adoption in a TV-program on German WDR channel. I happened to see the program in The Netherlands, fell in love with Elliot, and went to get him from Kalletal, Germany in March 2001. Since then Elliot has become a cherished member of the family and is an absolute darling in every way! He has lost a lot of weight, munches happily chicken wings with his all 4 teeth, is healthy as a horse, and has proved to be a seriously funny personality.
Human companion: Anna-Elisa Liinamo
Other pets: Two hearing Whippet boys: Pumi (10 yrs) and Buster (7 yrs).

Camera shy
Town: Delfzijl, Nederland
Deaf dog: Angel is a wonderful dog. At the moment we are doing obedience training, as well as agility. I got her when she was 10 weeks old and almost as white as my Am/Can. sheperds. She looked very happy when I saw her the first time. Not scared at all, much to my surprise. Later I found out that she's blind in her left eye, but this isn't an extra handicap. Most people I meet and tell them that she's deaf feel sorry for her, but I can't tell them enough about how it is just a matter of adjusting and putting forth a little more efford to teach a deaf dog!!!! I'm proud to call myself the owner of a deaf dog and she gives me great satisfaction every time we're training obedience or agility. I have trained one of my other dogs to find her when she runs off. This was really simple!!! (not the fact that she runs off!!! It always scares me to death.)
Human companion: Anita Boels, her husband and their 2 kids. (girls 4 and 5)
Other pets: 2 Am/Can. Shepherds(hearing) and 3 cats(hearing).
Email: a.boels@zonnet.nl
