George
|
Town: Managua, Nicaragua
Deaf dog: Gorgeous George is a 5 month old Boxer. George
is an adorable and loving boxer puppy. We didn't know he was deaf
when we received him as a gift, but soon realized he was special
(the first clue was his seemingly very deep sleep-- no sound could
rouse him!). We see his deafness as a challenge (house training
has been particularly interesting), but could never imagine our
life without him. He has a beautiful temperament, and we're madly
in love with him.
Update:1/25/2010: George is almost
4 years old now... He's grown into a fabulous, sweet dog, after
a pretty rough puppyhood. Lots of breakage around the house (maybe
the fact that they don't hear the glass shatter is why they keep
breaking things?), and some attachment issues (does NOT like being
left alone or being put outside by himself). And house training
took an unbelievably long time. But we've managed to come up with
some good signs and communicate well, and George has even become
a great watchdog (when he's awake, that is!). We are crazy about
him.
Human companions: Benjamin and Abbie
Other pets: Mad Max, the cat, Figaro, the cat, and many horses
