Maggie
Town: Sugar City , Idaho
Deaf dog: Maggie is an 18 month old Australian Shepherd. She's the most loving, gentle and smartest dog I have EVER had. She's hasn't met a adult, child or other animal she didn't want to be friends with (creepy
landlord excluded). At this point I'll tell you she reads peoples' intentions very well. And is very protective of me. If she thinks the horses, or other people, are getting too close or aggressive she will gently herd them away from me. The landlord she aggressively pushes away. She loves to play just about anything. We were looking for a new dog and found a photo of a litter of Aussies for sale at our local feed store. We called and made arrangements to see the litter. I had just lost my lab 5 months prior and wasn't really ready for a new dog, but my husband insisted that he wanted a good dog at home when he was out of town working. Anyway, he we arrived to see the pups the owner had just returned from the vet. She had been found to be completely deaf. He told us he was going to go out back and shoot her. Needless to! say we asked to hold her and never gave her back. I fell in love the first minute I held her and I love her more every day. She is a constant blessing. She is THE BEST companion (other than my husband). When I am ill she never leaves my side. God knew what he was doing when he made my wonderful deaf dog!
Human companions: Jolene Kiggins and Husband
Other pets: 1 Min Pin, also a rescue, 1 new Aussie puppy, 2 cats and 3 horses

Milo

Town: Coeur d Alene, Idaho
Deaf dog: Milo is a 5 year old white Boxer. We adopted Milo when he was 10 months old. We were his 4th home. We already had a Boxer (his name is Knox) and wanted a companion for him. To this day these two dogs are inseperable. Milo takes cues off of Knox and they are the best of buddies. You would never know Milo is deaf. He is a wonderful dog and we are very happy to have him in our home.
Human companions: Liz Blankenship, Husband and 2 year old Son
Other pets: Knox (Boxer) and a Tabby Cat

Town: Boise, Idaho
Deaf dog: Jack is a 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier. Jack is an energetic little spaz, and being deaf doesn't make him any different. He still barks just as loudly and annoyingly as any other dog (and constantly)- and all my friends INSIST that he can hear. I wish. It would be much easier to discipline him if he could hear my stern lectures. He's a cute little man, enjoys baths and getting muddy right after them, as well as playing with a basketball. He will roll a basketball around the yard by biting at it for hours, and he will roll it to you so that you can kick it for him. Just a normal little pup.
Human companions: Julia Johnston, Jerald the Dad(45), Tracy the Mom(43), Jerald (22), Jonathan(21), James(20), Susan(28), Niki(10)
Other pets: Henry (German Shepard, lab mix) age 6.

Camera Shy

Town: Boise, Idaho
Deaf dog: Harley is a 7 month old Great Pyrenees. I rescued Harley from a very bad place. He was sold but brought back because he was deaf. If he didn't get a home right away he was going to be put to sleep. He was a very sick puppy when I brought him home (at 3 months). It took a lot of time and tlc but he is now very healthy. I tried to find him a home after I took him from the bad place but could not find anybody interested so he joined my family including my three other dogs :) Harley is a very sweet and loveable puppy and I wouldn't give him up for anything!

Camera Shy
Town: Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
Deaf dog: Chance is a 4 year old Great Pyrenes/Australian Shepherd mix. "Chance is the best of both breeds. He weighs about 82 pounds and is georgeous (that's what everyone who sees him says). He has trained as easily as any other dog I've had and most people never guess that he's deaf! I got him when he was 9 weeks old and 20 minutes from euthanasia. He is one of the most wonderful dogs I've ever had."
Human companions: Linda Kincaid
Other pets: Spanky Lou and Rasta his fur-sisters

Chance
Chance
Town: Spirit Lake, Idaho
Deaf dog: Chance is a 4 year old AmStaff/Boxer/AmBulldog. "Chance's previous owners adopted him from the Humane Society at 6 months old and were unaware that he was deaf. They wanted a family dog they could take off leash hiking, etc. and told me they were going to take Chance back because he was deaf. He was such a sweet, gentle boy, I had to adopt him. Intially he wasn't house trained but other than that, the only problem has been separation anxiety. He has actually broken out windows when left alone and required stitches after getting stuck trying to escape from his kennel. We got through it but it lessened substantially when I got married and he gained the the companionship of another dog. I still talk verbally to him and use signs on the other animals out of habit. I love Chance and would not hesitate to adopt another deaf dog in the future."
Human companions: Lisa & Eddie Archer and kids, Josh & Jake
Other pets: Champ, 2 year old Lab/Mastiff; Nickie and Paris, 8 month old kittens; Mama, 11 year old cat.
