Town: Jeusp, Georgia
Deaf dog: Angus Jones is a 14 month old French Bulldog. We picked out deaf toilet paper terror as a pup not knowing he was deaf. Now ashamed, I share this for people now in our shoes for we too turned to this website for guidance, we cried our eyes out deciding what was best for the pup, our new marriage, my own health problems and selfishly scared of not knowing what to do for a deaf dog. In the end we concluded: we picked the pup, he didn't pick us and it was the perfect decision! The ride hasn't been easy but it definitely hasn't been the deafness either. We have ran into It's almost like we forget about the deafness. He doesn't do the most impressive tricks or mind very well (bulldog, he knows the signs), but he has the most intoxicating spirit about him I have ever seen in a dog and would not trade it for anything. He absolutely loves life and we absolutely love him.
Human companions: Emily and Aaron
Other pets: Bayley Brown

Bird

Town: Kennesaw, Georgia
Deaf dog: Bird is a 6 year old Dalmatian mix. I got 'Bird' in 2005 from a shelter, she was almost 1.5 years and she had been in there for over 4 months! They never told me she was deaf, just thought it would take a while for her to learn a new name and basic obedience skills. I found out about a week later when she didn't budge when a door slammed! She is the light of my life though! She is quite a handful and requires more work and attention than a dog that can hear, but I love her so much. She loves to get bones and hide them in couch cushions. I recently moved and packed up the couch and found 5 bones in it!! She loves chasing shadows, playing with tennis balls, eating cheweez and having me chase her down the stairs. She is a CRAZY dog!!
Human companions: Kellie and Grandparents Sharen and David

Crimson Jade

Town: Sylvester, Georgia
Deaf dog: Crimson Jade is a 6 month old Boxer Bulldog mix. I was given Jade from a breeder in Moultrie, it was love at first sight. She is registered with the AKC, she is only allowed to do the Obstacle Course. Not because she is deaf, but because she is solid white. Their LOSS! She is my baby and smart! I couldn't imagine life without her!!!!
Human companions: Tammy, Daddy, 2 sisters and a Brother
Other pets: A Poodle/Dachaund mix and she can hear

Onyx, Mya and family

Town: Powder Springs, Georgia
Deaf dog: Mya Calway is a 1 year old Pitbull. We found our Mya on the MSPCA Nevin's Farm website. We went to meet her several times and were a bit weary of adopting a deaf pit bull. Friends and family advised it was a bad idea because she was a "dangerous breed" and her deafness would put her in a chronic state of defensiveness. Fortunately my husband and I didn't listen to all the pessimists in our lives. We decided to "foster-to-adopt" and brought her home with us. It was clear after the first day with her that there wasn't a chance we were not going to keep her. We officially adopted Mya in October of 2008 after a long two months of visiting her at the shelter. Mya is an amazing dog!! As a family we have had a lot of foster dogs come through our home and even though she is deaf Mya has been the fastest learner out of all of them. Mya is one of the most intuitive dogs I've ever met. She is very sensitive to people's emotions, and is first to jump in your lap if you're expressing a negative emotion. No one can ever tell she is deaf. She does more tricks then our hearing dog and responds better too. She knows all her hand commands well, and despite having a thick stubborn streak, she's very well behaved. Mya now spends her days sunbathing, chasing tennis balls, taking runs, and harassing her canine sibling. She gets along with everyone she meets, canine or human. Mya has enriched our lives and we are so happy to have found such an amazing companion.

Deaf dog: Harper is a 1 year old Great Dane. Harper was recued when he was 9 weeks old from a Chihuahua breeder who was going to put him down. Harper was only 6 pounds, and was living on tiny breed dog food. The breeder knew Harper was deaf and assumed that he was blind...due to his icey blue eyes...in fact Harper can see fantastically. Harper is the goofiest dog I have ever owned...and my life hasn't been dull since bringing him into my home!

I don't think they have seen any difference in me, because I have no idea I can't hear. Since then I have graduated from puppy training class and I am currently enrolled in basic obedience class. I love to play ball anytime, anywhere. When I wake up I grab a ball and put it at my dad's feet. I could do this all day.
