Town: Tequesta, Florida
Deaf dog: Della Roo is a 2 year old Blue Heeler Mix. We adopt Della when she was 4 months old from a rescue league in Coral Springs and it was immediate LOVE! We noticed right away that she wasn't responding to sounds so we got her hearing tested and sure enough, she was deaf. We didn't plan on adopting a special needs dog but having Della in our lives has been such a blessing that we wouldn't hesitate to rescue another. She is affectionate and playful, most people don't even realize she's deaf! Della has brought life to our household and has become a lifelong pal to our 2-year-old Aussie/Beagle mix, Deisel.
Human companions: Erin and Michael
Other pets: Diesel, a hearing Aussie/Beagle mix

Town: Miami, Florida
Deaf dog: Bandit is a 1 year old Boxer. I got Bandit from a dog rescue here in Miami. He was approximately 7 months
old. I was told they weren't sure how much he heard. I actually do not think he hears at all. I think it was fate that brought us together. My daughter is a Sign Language Interpreter Major at RIT. I don't know very much ASL but I am trying to teach Bandit through sign language. He is a very loving dog. Still very much a Puppy. I would love to complete his training so he can receive is Canine Good Citizen.

Town: Jupiter, Florida
Deaf dog: Della Roo is a 1 year old Australian Cattle Dog Mix. We adopted Della from a shelter when she was about 3 months old and we noticed immediately that she had a hearing problem and our vet soon confirmed our suspicions. We were nervous about raising a special needs dog but Della has been such a wonderful addition to our family and we wouldn't trade her for the world. She and our other Aussie mix (not deaf) absolutely love each other and she has definitely
completed our family. She is such an amazing puppy and I can't imagine not having her in my life!
Human companions: Erin and Husband
Other pets: Diesel, an Australian cattle dog/beagle mix

Town: Miami, Florida
Deaf dog: Ringo is a 5 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback. He is a beautiful Ridgeback we bought from a breeder. We starting noticing he was deaf shortly after we got him at 8 weeks. The suspicions were confirmed at 5 months old. Once we found out we decided not to part with him and take on the challenge of training him. He is super intelligent, once we concentrated on hand signals he really started to understand us. He goes to doggy day camp with his big sis Savannah and has won the hearts of the trainers there. His favorite past-time is to torture his big bro Cheech.
Human companions: Mary and Gretel
Other pets: Savannah (Bloodhound/Catahoula mix) and Cheech (Chihuahua)

Town: Lake Worth, Florida
Deaf dog: Helga, an 11 week old Boxer. "Helga is a sweet little all white boxer pup we got from the breeder who we were buying our other pup, Katrina, from. The breeder told us that she would have to put Helga to sleep if she could not find a suitable home for her. I could not allow that to happen, we went home with Katrina, our fawn colored female boxer pup and her white sister, Helga. At the present time they are 11 weeks old and more than a handful. Helga is very smart and we are slowly teaching her as well as her sister simple signings. We figured it would be best to train them both the same so the other will not feel left out."

His face screams "I didn't do it!" and of course "Look I'm really cute, c'mere and pet me." Camera Shy
Town: Wellington, Florida
Deaf dog: Amanda's human pal writes: "We recently adopted Amanda from a rescue league. We had been looking for a Sheltie and finally found our Amanda. At the time, we had no idea she was deaf and neither did the shelter. It was 2-3 days before we realized that she could not hear a thing. This was a bit scary for us, as we had no info or experience with deaf dogs. I did some research on the internet to see what we had gotten ourselves into and found a ton of info. We are so glad that she has come into our lives. She is the most loving, gentle, smart dog. My kids can do anything to her and she is just happy to be with our family. She is truly meant to be with us. We have had NO issues or problems with her...totally housetrained, learning had signals, etc. She is awesome!"
