Belle and Sunny
Town: Hayward, California
Deaf dog: Baby Belle is a 6 month old Australian Shepherd. I got my double merle little girl from Nor Cal Family Dog rescue in San Francisco. I had been searching online for another dog when I saw this beautiful white pup. I knew that she was deaf, I had intended to adopt Temple, but when I applied, they told me that she had been adopted. However, I was lucky that they happened to have another Aussie, one that they didn't put online yet. She is 100% deaf. She has starburst eyes, but her vision seems to be good. Within a month, she was home. She is a very smart and sweet little girl, with
endless amounts of energy (:
Human companions: Jasmine
Other pets: Sunny the golden retriever. He 10 years old, the grandpa of the house. In addition to this, he's also the babysitter. Without his help, caring for the puppy would be even more messy :D

Jasmine

Town: Stockton, California
Deaf dog: Jasmine is a 2 year old Dalmatian. I had been looking on petfinder for MONTHS, for a cute little dalmatian
puppy. She was 10 weeks old, and in the shelter for only a day. The shelter found her and her sister Genie, in a box on the side of a road. They were both deaf, so the shelter figures the breeder couldn't sell them for the money he wanted to sell them for. I went by the shelter later that day, and fell in love with Jasmine. She had her sister, Genie, along with her. She was set to be adopted out the following day, so the lady at the shelter wanted me to wait, so they could both leave the shelter at the same time, cause Jasmine and her sis were real close. So I left Jasmine there, and went shopping for her, so I would be all ready for her when she came to her forever home. While I was out shopping, the shelter lady called and had some bad news. Her sissy had just tested positive for parvo, so the lady wanted me to come pick her up right away, so Jasmine would have less of a chance of contacting the disease. So she was picked up that night, and has been spoiled ever since!! Jasmine and I are teachers at petsmart so she shows all the dogs what tricks she knows, and teaches them all the obedience rules. Jasmine has a Dogster account and we would love to have you all as friends! http://www.dogster.com/dogs/828161
Human companions: Michelle
Other pets: Aurora, a Chinese Crested/Chihuahua mix Niquie, a Corgi/Doxie mix Smudge, a Tuxedo kitten

Conner

Town: Livermore, California
Deaf dog: Conner is a 4 year old Great Dane. I adopted Conner from Penrose kennel in Colorado. I chose him because we were a great fit. He needed to be with a family with other danes and I wanted to learn from him.
He started his training the day after he arrived...our trainer came to the house and taught us how to get him to sit and how to work with him in accordance with his temperament. Food and patience were key. Food because he loved it and learned his obedience with ease. Patience because he screamed for weeks when I left his sight, was bumped by our other dogs or I was not touching him when he slept. Today he runs off lead with the aid of a Dogra vibrating collar. He is trained to locate me when it vibrates and return to my side. This took 4 months of daily practice before he got it and was much more challenging for us to learn than basic obedience. My trainer also taught him how to use his nose to find me so he does not panic if I am out of his sight...he hid me in teepee tents in a half acre area and once hidden I paged Conner and he used his nose to find me because I was out of sight. Now, he does this when I hide from him in the fields and does not panic because he has a job...finding me. Now, with his electronic ears, he is independent and runs free in a field with my other Danes. He performs basic obedience and heels off lead. He is very smart and understands the significance and difference of my various touches when his electric collar is off. I just taught him to swim at the local lake this summer...a deeply touching moment of trust between us. We are great friends and I love him dearly. He is a loving and joyful pup and is just fabulous to take out to social events. Loved by children, the elderly or anyone needing a smooch, Conner is your dog.

Monty and Lucy

Town: Emeryville, California
Deaf dog: Monty is an 11 month old Border Collie. When we met Monty the SFSPCA didn't know what to do with him! He had behavioral issues in addition to hearing and neurological deficits resulting from his homozygous merle genotype. He looked just like a little white version of our Milo dog Lucy, so we took him home that day. Ever since it has been hilarity and mischief with the two of them, and he even came to Las Vegas with us recently!! We are so proud of our little rabbit, and we are hoping that when he grows up he can be a therapy dog and inspire handicapped kids.
Human companions: Tom and Margot Law
Other pets: Lucy, a 14 month BC cross (maybe with a Pit??) and Monty's favorite sister ever!! He is shy around other dogs but not with her!

Town: Livermore, California
Deaf dog: Fiona is a 3 month old Dalmatian mix. I have just rescued Fiona who turns out to be deaf. I am looking for buddies who are in the same situation. I don't quite know where to start but I want to make sure she has the best life ever.
Human companions: Debbie Tobin
Other pets: 2 cats from the Dublin shelter

Town: Antioch California
Deaf dog: Bud is a 12 yr old Akita/Chow/Lab mix. We inherited him 12 years ago when he was just a pup. My stepson could no longer keep him at his mom's house. She was going to take him to the pound. He has been a difficult dog, but worth every minute to me. His deafness is complete and sudden. Vet says classic old age/ I've had dogs live to be 19 and no deafness, so I'm sure something in this mutt breed is also the cause. I'm trying to teach him hand signals, see you can teach and old dog new tricks. As long as he is healthy and happy in his life, he will be apart of mine.
Human companions: Keith and Pam Connelly
Other pets: Lady is a yellow lab, Mystic is a tuxedo cat, fish are just fish, Sting is a scorpion, and Thumper the rabbit

Callie
Callie & Rex
Town: Oakland, California
Deaf dog: Callie, a seven year old Dalmatian born deaf (she is still often mistaken for a puppy because of her usually happy and outgoing demeanor). She is firmly convinced that all people were put on this earth to pet her and she is always happy to help them in their appointed task. She's still not fond of cats, but she has many human and canine admirers at the local dogpark. She is also extremely intelligent and clearly has visual acuity that makes up for the lack of hearing. This is especially convenient for spotting unexpected snacks. Most important, she is easily the most affectionate dog her mom has ever had, happiest when some part of her is touching some part of you. Despite her occasional prima-donna-from-hell ways, Callie is devoted to Rex, the older dog, and each of them has brought out the best in the other.
Human companion: Mary Eisenhart
Other pets: Rex, a 10 year old Lab/Border Collie mix; Eugene, cat, who has now passed on.

Camera Shy
Town: Fremont, California
Deaf dog: Lita, also known as Princess of Everything Crazy Monster #1 and Lulu, also known as Crazy Monster Lulu Dallas #2 are both all white with blue markings and blue eyes. They were born on November 7, 2000. These two Pit Bulls are from the same mom and dad and we did not realize that we picked the two only deaf dogs out of the litter until about a month after we had them. For the first year they were a hand full, so we enrolled them into Loyal Dog Partners dog training and every week for about two months now they have been drastically improving on their behavior. Lita is a very fun loving dog who loves to play tug-of-war, give kisses, and eat a lot more than her sister. Lulu loves to chase after birds, obey a little bit more than Lita ( Lita is still getting the hang of our hand signals), lay in the sun and cuddle in your lap. We think Lulu is the runt of the litter because she is about eight pounds smaller than Lita. My sister Jolie and I tell ourselves that we were destined to raise these two amazing dogs.

She is so smart and loving. She loves to go to the parks to hike and swim. Dallas always keeps me in sight when we are out. She is very well mannered and has a huge heart. No fear in this gal!"

Camera Shy
Town: Antioch, California
Deaf dog: Zoia joined our family in 2001. She belonged to a trainer who trains and breeds Schutzhund German Shepherds. She was not Schutzhund material because she refused to bite! (not a bad thing in our opinion)She is the mama to several litters of champions, but needed a new home because she did not have a "job" anymore and her owner did not want her to live in a kennel all day. Zoia had never been around children much, but she proved to be superb with our brood! Zoia has had chronic ear problems since she was very young, and no amount of vet care really helped long term. We noticed she went deaf over the last year. She is totally deaf now, but she is still the greatest dog ever. We love her very, very much and hope she has many more years left with us.
Human companions: Frank, Anna, and 5 kids!
Other Pets: 3 cats, 2 parakeets, goldfish, 2 hamsters, three bunnies and 2 otherdogs, Cowboy and Gracie

Foxxy Doxxy
Foxxy Doxxy
Town: Bethel Island, California
Deaf dog: Foxxy Doxxy is a Dachshund. "This little ball of bubbles is 6 months old and is knocking them over. We live and travel in a Motorhome. When we take Foxxy for a walk she has to stop and talk to everybody - like they only came to see her. This would be fine and good in a normal neighborhood but ours changes every weekend - so we have to stop 4 - 6 times to let everybody ooohh and aaah over her (and redo it every weekend). I have even tried taking her out and walk next to the street but I have had cars stop to look at her. Our little queen of bubbles."
Human companions: Harv and Suzanne Andres
Other pets: A standard Dachshund

He has been one of the best animals I have ever owned. He is a white Boxer with a blue eye. He is quick to learn hand signals, and reads body language well, and minds better than my wife (who can hear) :)"
