Deaf dog: Rocket is a 1 year old Dal-Pit mix? We lost our 14-year
old Queensland mix (pound rescue) in August and wanted
another dog to keep our 5-year-old Shepherd mix Soda company. Rocket
was listed as a Queensland mix on the SPCA website so we paid her
a visit. I don't know what happened to her before she arrived at the
SPCA, but it left a mark. her kennel tag
said she was found on the street, but no way, this was once somebody's
baby, at least until they figured out she was deaf and dumped her
at the pound. it's sad that they dumped her, although we are glad
to have her now! it's almost sadder that the trained professionals
at the SPCA didn't figure it out. Poor little sweetie.

white Cat, and Curly the elderly porch Cat.

Deaf dog: Tessa is an 11 year old Dalmatian mix. We aquired
Tessa from our neighbors about 1 1/2yrs ago. Prior to that a year
after we moved to our house this scared dog showed up on 7/4/04.
At that time we did not know who she belonged to as we live in an
area where the houses are far apart. We put an ad in the paper for
a lost dog but no response. One of our other
neighbors said Tessa belonged to the people who lived behind them
so we took her home. On and off for three years thereafter we would
find Tessa at our front door or window crying to be let in. She
would stay a day or a weekend depending on if her owners were home.
We would return her, but she was always reluctant to go back. We
had told our neighbors if they ever needed to find her a home that
we would take her. In 7/07 they got a new puppy that Tessa was not
getting along with, so they offered for us to finally adopt her.
My children and I love her and I have always felt she had a special
soul. I have just recently started to teach her ASL, and the results
have been amazing - she seemed to learn fast. She has 5 words in
her sign language vocabulary at this point. Now she looks at me
like I finally got it - a way to communicate more effectively with
her! I was partially inspired by a woman that I work with who is
an ASL interpreter. I watch her interpret, ask her questions, and
use an ASL book. Tessa seems to have reached another level of understanding
or maybe I have - it was always there for her! My ASL interpreter
friend is also exited about Tessa's progress. Tessa is a very happy
dog!

Deaf dog: I got Denver (an Australian Sheppard) from my local
SPCA shelter. I already had an Aussie and was wanting another who
needed a good home. I moment I laid eyes on Denver I knew he was
special. And when I found out he was deaf I knew I was going to
take him home. I have never had a specal needs dog but felt I could
give a good home with love.

Other pets: I have two other dogs. An Aussie blue mural,
and a Queensland. Plus four cats, and a bird.

Town: Farmersville, California
Deaf dog: Lucille(Lucy) came from the local shelter. She is
a Queensland Heeler. She was brought in because of her deafness. Her
owners couldn't sell her to the pet store because of it. She was there
5 min. and I took her home(job perk). I am so happy to have her. My
family just loves her to death. I think she is better than a hearing
dog. She doesn't spook easily and even though she doesn't hear she
doesn't startle when you come up from behind or wake her up. All in
all she a great little girl.
