Town: Mountain Home, Arkansas
Deaf dog: Ellie is a 2 year old Collie, Lacey is also a 2 year old Collie. My girls came from a Collie rescue in Ohio. They were rescued from a puppy mill on the Missouri/ Nebraska border. I drove to Kentucky to get them. I'd watched the rescue website for a few months and was in no hurry to get another dog. I already have 2 dogs. I was looking for an adult that would be easier to blend in with my boys, Roadie and Goliath. But when I saw the profile on the girls, I knew they were the ones. I knew they needed to stay together and be in a home where they would be loved and appreciated for who they are. They are not Lassie wannabe's.

Ellie and Lacey are the best! Unless I tell people that they can't hear, nobody knows. Lacey's favorite thing is to chase the ball. She does have some vision impairment, but her nose can find the ball when her eyes can't. I have noticed that many times she doesn't see the ball go. So she watches Ellie and chases her to find the ball. Ellie only brings it back about half the time. Lacey would chase it til she dropped if I let her.

Town: Hot Springs, Arkansas
Deaf dog: Ceasar is a 6 or 7 year old Dalmatain/Pit. I found him on Petfinders. It was love at first sight. He was rescued from a shelter and in foster care for a year before I got him. I didn't know if I could handle a deaf dog, but I can say that it has been a wonderful experience. He watches you all the time unlike hearing dogs. He doesn't bark when all the neighborhood dogs are barking. I take him on fire calls with me because the sirens don't hurt his ears. He has been a great joy in my life. I'm so glad I took a chance on him.

Town: North Little Rock, Arkansas
Deaf dog: Jackson is a 5 year old Boxer. My husband and I wanted to get a dog, so we met with a breeder and they did not have many left. Actually, all they had was a sad looking white one. We decided to buy him thinking we would have a very unique dog. Unique was one word for him. We were unaware of the fact that white boxers can go deaf, we just thought he had a bad attitude problem. We went through three sets of living room furniture before finding out that we were the ones who had it all wrong. After learning more about deaf dogs we were finally able to keep a set of living room furniture! We tease him now and call him the great white lover. It does not matter who you are, if you are in a seated position he is your new snuggle bunny!

Marley
Marley
Town: Little Rock, Arkansas
Deaf dog: Marley's human companion writes: "I got her from a "dalmatian breeder" in North Carolina. She turned out to be not a good breeder at all. She told me that Marley was deaf but I was going to take her anyway. She then told me that she had friends who had offered her $500 for the deaf puppy. I told her no way and she gave in and gave her to me for free (I had to pay shipping though). Marley is a very sweet dog. She is a lot more well behaved than my dal that can hear. She is a lot sweeter too. "
Human companions: Mary Anne Thomason
Other pets: Weston, 2 1/2 year old dalmatian (has epilepsy) Cuddles, 1 1/2 year old cat, and Lucy, 3 year old cat
